چکیده

POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH BIOMATERIALS USED IN HERNIOPLASTY (Abstract): Meshes of synthetic material are now being widely used to repair hernias (hernioplasty) but biomaterial-associated infections constitute a major clinical problem. The success of surgical repair of abdominal wall defects depends on the physico-chemical properties of biomaterials, their biocompatibility and design, preoperative handling and conditioning of implant, surgical technique and not least, the health status of the patient. The most common complications due to building materials are postoperative infection, seroma collection, bowel obstruction and enterocutaneous fistulas. The risk of such complications is minimized by using composite macroporous meshes (dual layer meshes, pore size < 1 mm) whose dimensions ensure adequate laxity without formation of folds.

لاپاروسکوپیک هرنیوپلاستی در فتق‌های اینگوینال دو طرفه به کمک مش عینکی شکل در 54 بیمار

Background: Laparoscopic hernioplasty is a standard technique with increasing interest of patients and surgeons. Bilateral hernioplasty can be performed by laparoscopy as well. The aim of this study is to show laparoscopic bilateral hernioplasty is an acceptable method and use of eye-shaped mesh getting the best result. Methods: In 54 cases with bilateral inguinal hernia, under general anest...

Multidetector CT of expected findings and early postoperative complications after current techniques for ventral hernia repair

UNLABELLED Current techniques for ventral hernia repair (VHR) rely on prosthetic mesh implantation and are increasingly performed laparoscopically. Potentially serious iatrogenic complications may occur following VHR, though these are rare compared to the vast number of procedures performed each year. This paper provides an overview of contemporary open and laparoscopic surgical techniques and ...

A Comparative Study between Lichtenstein Hernioplasty and Rutkow-Robbins Method of Hernioplasty for Inguinal Hernia Repair

Background: To compare the effectiveness of the two different methods of inguinal hernia repairs viz. The Lichtenstein hernioplasty and Rutkow-Robbins method of hernioplasty. To compare the results of these two techniques and complications if any, and to arrive at a conclusion as to the better modality of treatment in the present setup. Methods: Total 50 patients of uncomplicated direct and ind...

Meta-analysis of the effectiveness of prophylactic antibiotics in the prevention of postoperative complications after tension-free hernioplasty.

BACKGROUND Previous reviews of the effectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis for elective inguinal hernia repair were not conclusive owing to the limited number of patients enrolled in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). However, since new RCTs involving patients undergoing tention-free hernioplasty have been published in recent years, we performed a new meta-analysis to evaluate the effectivene...

Hernioplasty with and without mesh: analysis of the immediate complications in a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND Inguinal hernia repair is the most common procedure in general surgery and 80,000 operations are performed annually in Great Britain, 100,000 in France and 700,000 in the US. Given its high frequency has a major impact, both in the medical and economic aspects. AIM Analyze the immediate postoperative complications comparing mesh versus non mesh hernioplasty. METHOD Randomized con...
